Havard Business School's succession case

No one would challenge the departing dean, Prof. Kim Clark, when he says that HBS has a "rich tradition and a tremendous legacy". His successor, however, will need to be a leader that can reinvent the school while maintaining its heritage. It may be time to again consider external candidates, particularly leaders with real business case experience. The last time HBS appointed an external candidate was in 1919.
